- Thank you, Woody. After being told that I'm wrong so many times by so many
- people who don't really understand what I'm getting at, it's nice to have
- a professional who's directly involved with the development acknowledge
- that I'm right. Also, thank you for putting the character set issue on the
- list.
-
- That having been said, there are several more points to hash out:
-
- 1 On the point of graphics, at least in the case of the Amiga, I
- wouldn't worry too much about supporting a great number of
- different formats. There are too many extremely inexpensive
- solutions out there for the Amiga user for Softwood to
- expend precious time and money re-inventing the wheel.
- Personally, I use ImageStudio2.3 (registered) and Image
- Engineer2.1 (Freeware, but uses Superview, whch I have not yet
- registered--limited income sucks rocks). Although there are certain
- limitations to both, I can highly recommend both. They complement
- each other nicely.
-
- 2 On the matter of fonts, if I'm not missing my guess, those fonts
- were licensed from an existing type house. I've seen the names
- bandied about in type 1 and truetype discussions on USENET. You
- could probably adjust your license to include type 1 fonts, or
- truetype, either of which would already support the character set
- in question. For the already sold fonts, you could offer an upgrade
- deal for the purpose of getting the new version with the new
- character set.
-
- 3 When it comes to the new word processing features no one could
- be happier to see them than I am. On the specific point of
- import/export modules, couldn't you release the interface specs
- publicly so that those in the public could write modules a la
- the ImageFX crowd? This would cost you little more than
- guaranteeing the accuracy of the information and would result in a
- great number of modules for things like WP6, Word for Win95, etc.
-
- 4 Getting back to graphics support before I sign off on this, how
- about saving the filename (not the path) of a graphic with the
- document even if the graphic is included? This would make it
- easier on someone who wishes to export the graphic later, simply
- replace what's there with a better scan. It would be easier to
- find the original graphic knowing the original filename (and,
- possibly the author, etc.).
-
- In closing, let me say that you have done an excellent job of supporting
- the Amiga, not just through your own software products, but also in
- becoming an authorized dealer, in becoming the North American distributor
- for so many fine products, and in assisting in the porting of AmigaDOS
- to the PowerPC.
-
- There is so much that you have done for the Amiga that reading the comments
- of others claiming that you're abandoning the Amiga market, just boggles my
- mind. The Amiga has few champions these days. Throwing stones at the few
- remaining is just plain stupid.
